# Black Pearl Editorial

> Black Pearl Editorial writes the Reader's Companions to the Black Pearl list: for every book, a long-form critical essay and the apparatus a close reader or a reading group actually needs — discussion protocols and prompts, a lexicon, a continuity map, notes on the prose, and the questions the book leaves open.

Black Pearl Editorial is the editorial arm of Black Pearl. For each novel on the list it writes a Reader's Companion: one long-form critical essay, and the full apparatus around it — a map of the book, discussion protocols and prompts, a lexicon, a continuity map, notes on the prose and on the real people behind the book, a quiz, printable handouts, and the questions the novel leaves open.

The companions are spoiler-aware and edited to be read after the novel. They are scholarly rather than promotional: their work is to help a reader, alone or in a group, read the book more closely.
